Big Fish Little Fish Ely | A Family Friendly Rave?

If your children are anything like mine, they love to dance! Whether it be to a new song or the sound of the phone ringing, you'll likely finding them bopping and singing along. So when we attended the Big Fish Little Fish family rave, you can imagine just how excited they were to be able to dance the afternoon away and that was even before all the balloons came out!

I have never been a dancer myself, so I wasn't sure If this event was going to be something I (or us as a whole family) would enjoy. I honestly have to say I enjoyed the whole event and would love to go back, here's what we found during the day.

Entry

As we walked up to the venue, we were greeted by a happy gentleman who took our name and let us in, as we walked through the door the girls were offered glow sticks. The girls were so excited to be given glow sticks, we thought this was a lovely touch and were particularly impressed that the guy had checked with us on the sly first that the girls could have them). Luckily, we had planned ahead and only taken what we needed, when we walked in we found that there wasn't anywhere to put your coats or bags (unless you had put a buggy in the buggy area) the friendly staff soon sorted this issue though and brought out a coat rack (however it filled very quick and most peoples stuff ended up on the floor) The only other thing in the foyer, was a vegan cake stand, the had brownies, cakes and cookies for sale and of course I had to try a few different things which were delicious!

Dance Floor

We walked straight into the disco/dance room where we found face painting on the right, if I remember correctly, it was £4 a face and our girls weren't interested, but the kids that we saw with painted faces looked so good! The music was on and the kids and a handful of adults were dancing as they started to warm up to the event. Honestly the girls were having so much fun already that I knew coming had been a great decision, during the event they let off a confetti cannon (which of course had the kids on the floor collecting up as much as they can!), gave out plenty of balloons and had a few massive 'balloons' across the room, it was like the biggest game of keep the balloon up and so much fun. The adults really got into it, dancing and laughing everywhere I looked families where having a great time. The disco lighting was wonderful too and the music (although not my taste) was great to dance too and not too loud. Throughout the whole event they had a bubble machine going and of course the kids LOVED it, even us adults got in and started popping the bubbles!

Side Area

To the left of the dance floor was another room that had crafts in it. The girls sat down at a table and made a animal mask (to go with the animal theme), the activity was self guided which was great to see how the kids would make their own, but there were examples and a friendly member of staff topping all the crafts bits up regularly. There was also a drawing wall running down the side so the younger kids or those that wanted to do a bit of colouring could sit and relax.

Next to this was also the bar area, I was surprised to see the bar was fully-licensed and although we only brought coke, it was good value too. From what I could see although people were buying alcohol, everyone was still responsible and keeping an eye on their children, it was a breath of fresh air.

Quiet Room

Up the stairs from the foyer there was a chill room. The organisers had laid out soft play consisting of mats, a small ball pit, tunnels, lots of tents, racing lanes and had lit the room with sensory lighting. There was also a play dough table and some quieter music too. The girls spent ages just playing around while myself and my husband sat down and rested our legs. I thought the whole room was such a lovely touch to the event.

Overall we really enjoyed the event, there was so much going on that the whole family had a great time, we can't wait to return to the next Big Fish Little Fish Event which you can find details about over on their website.
