If I’m being honest, when I first heard of children’s meditation, I was a bit sceptical. With NaminĂ© being as crazy active as she is and Kairi wanting to do everything NaminĂ© does, I just couldn’t see them sitting still for more than 2 minutes, let alone me being able to help them get to their own special place and love more. I was also very sceptical about how a book could get the girls to sleep without tears or me sitting there for hours cuddling them, yet in my amazement, it worked!
In My Heart is a children’s meditation book aimed at getting children to go to sleep and wake up with a happy heart. The book is beautifully designed and is split into 5 sections. The first section is aimed at the adult, it’s for you to get to know the book and how to learn to ‘read’ it to your child. I found this really helpful and informative.
The other 4 sections are the 4 stories, we have tried 1 so far and honestly I absolutely loved it (I was welling with happy tears!, You get your child to lay down and give them a small explanation about what you are doing and that all they need to do is lay there and think about what you are saying. Make sure they know not to tell you anything now, they can tell you anything they want in the morning (but they don’t have to).
You then ‘read’ the story, I say ‘read’ because it’s almost as if you are just guiding them through a journey and you can easily adapt it for your child or two children. You take them to their ‘heartland’ and help them to feel their heart and fill it with love. It’s so beautiful.
Kairi went to sleep with a massive smile on her face, it was wonderful to see. Then the next day she woke up and told me all about her trip to Heartland and how full her heart is now, I really loved going through this journey with her and can’t wait to start the next ‘story’ tonight.
Strangely enough, since reading this with Kairi, not only does she go to sleep easy, but she has now felt the courage to go up to bed by herself and just go to sleep. She often talks about her ‘heartland’ and I am so glad that we had the opportunity to do this.
Gitte Winter Graugaard is a wonderful writer and has written her book at the perfect level. Whether you have done meditation before or are completely new and sceptical about it like me, there is something for everyone. Funnily enough, the illustration on the front cover is so so similar to what I picture as I take Kairi to her heartland too.
So if you are looking for something to help the love in your family or want a new no-cry solution to get your children to sleep, then I highly recommend trying a copy of In My Heart.
