Recently Kairi and Naminé have developed a deep passion for animals and will often go on about the zoo, they were desperate to go back, so when Attraction Tix invited us to go and check out London Zoo's Halloween event, there was no way I was saying no!



Living in Ely, the journey to London was easy, we hopped on the train before 9 and headed out to London Kings Cross where we took a 45 minute walk to the zoo. (Note to self, bring a carrier or buggy for Naminé next time!) Once we were at the zoo and had met the wonderful lady from attraction tickets, we were given a sheet with information about what was on and headed off out into the zoo.



I grabbed a map from the information desk and quickly realised that the tunnel led to the other side of the zoo, there are 2 sides, amazing! Our first stop was the aquarium, by the point, I was so excited, never mind the girls, we looked at all the different fishes, saw how they were bred and learnt about the plastic bottles that are dumped into our ocean. As a home educating family, it was a great experience for us.



The zoo has a lovely 'loop' to it, meaning that we just kept walking and hitting the next attraction (which for first-timers was a massive bonus). We got hands-on in the farmyard (something that Naminé had been desperate to do!) and the headed into the land of the lions which amazed me as the theming was so well done. I noticed a lot of signs saying designed by kids, for kids and you could really tell that was the case. So much of the zoo was hands-on, which kept the girls interested far far longer than the 15 minutes we managed at the last zoo we visited!



As we headed into the Halloween area, we were met by a dressed up but very friendly lady who let us know about the trail inside and gave us our cards. We walked around the graveyard-themed area, full of dry ice smoke and spooky music and learnt all about the animals that were extinct and what is alive nowadays that they are closely related too. Part the way through the trail, we stopped off into a spooky hut and the girls got straight into making bat masks, the activity was really full but the ladies running it were doing an awesome job and keeping everyone happy. Once they were done we were back on the trail and answering our last questions. Lastly, we came to another hut where there were more crafts waiting inside. A chance to make a 3D spider, a pumpkin, bat or ghost. The table was covered in Halloween coloured papers, pipe cleaners, lollypop stick, glue scissors and pens, there was plenty to go around and the girls were having so much fun that I had to bribe them away with the promise of sweets after lunch!



Once we were out of the graveyard area, we came across the spooky storytelling, the girls quickly sat down and loved taking part in the story, the lady running the event was fantastic with the kids and whether there were 3 or 33 int eh room, she had them all involved. It was great for me as it gave me 5 minutes to relax and hop onto update my social media, which is something I struggle with when I'm alone. At the end of the story, the lady told us there would be a Halloween party in 45 minutes, of course, we were definitely coming back.



We quickly popped to the park, had our picnic and the girls had a play before heading to the party. Ribbons, Bubbles, Party Games, Pom Poms and lots of prizes, the girls had an amazing time and it was so nice to see the smiles on their faces. After the party we visited other areas, bugs, butterflies and penguins, we got some amazing photos and saw bees making honey up close! I'm not really a bug person, but the bug house is not one to miss!



By this point, we were getting tired so we decided to walk over to the other side of the park to see a few more animals before we left. We passed pumpkin carving (they looks amazing and also they were scoped out for you: BONUS!) and face painting on the way.



We visited the reindeers, giraffes, saw a sloth and the meercats all before going home. Honestly, we could have spent more time at the zoo, there was so much more to do and the Halloween activities were fantastic!
