For the previous 38 years, Ely's Aquafest has been bright and sunny, this year was no different. Jubilee Gardens buzzed with stalls, rides, residents and visitors, as people of all ages came out to enjoy the sun and the festivities. As someone that really enjoys Ely's events, I knew months ago I would be taking a walk around Aquafest and of course, I was not disappointed.
Jubilee Gardens looked beautiful lined with stalls, rides and activities. From hair bows and balloons to free fruit and science, there was something for everyone.
As we walked round and took in the sights and smells we came across the Mini Professors stall (I've written about Mini Professors before and if you haven't been for your first session yet, you really should!) Regina, the lady running it, had a range of experiments out for the children to enjoy and many parents too. The girls got stuck straight in to creating a cactus and myself and another parent were amazed by the 'diver' in the bottle. Science is so much fun and Mini Professors really bring that out.
Across from Mini Professors, Tesco had a stand. Tesco were giving out carriers bags full of goodies. Fruit and veg charts, free food and stickers, the girls loved to chose their food and I was very impressed in the healthy step.
As we walked around we came across face painting, 'eye glitter', community first responders, jewelry stalls and so much more. There were many lucky dips and games to play. The prices were mostly around 20p to 50p, meaning that I could say 'yes' to both children and support many more stalls than usual.
Around the gardens, we found a variety of rides and sports races for the children. The girls enjoyed flying in the planes and driving a truck and of course grabbing a delicious ice cream from the van.
The atmosphere was perfect all the way through the gardens and down Broad Street all day, excitement was defiantly in the air. It was so lovely to see the community out and celebrating Ely again. Keep up the amazing work team Aquafest, we can't wait for the 1st July 2018 for next years 40th!
