To be honest though, it was a lot of fun. Me and Kairi really enjoyed ourselves...but the MESS! How are you supposed to get marshmallow off EVERYTHING!
So we've been meaning to cook a Christmas treat for the neighbours for a while, we have lived here for nearly 5 months now and not really found a proper way of introducing ourselves and a tasty treat at Christmas seamed like a fab idea. Now I'm in no way, shape or form a domestic goddess! I try, I really do, but things always end up more a 'pinterest fail' than what they should actually be. So I decided to aim low for this one. Less ingredients, Less cooking and as simple as possible. If we can do it, anyone can!
First of all gather everything you need (and then everything you don't think you will need!) We didn't want to spend loads of money so just brought shop brand where we could find it (Missing from this picture; 2 bars of cheapest white chocolate, spatula and random Christmas cutters)
Grab your saucepan and melt the butter. Kairi loved this because it meant she could stir lots (its much easier to help at this step!
Then add all your marshmallows (we found adding a large handful at a time worked much better in our smaller
We did a lot of fine motor skill practice while picking up the marshmallows.
Once it was pretty much ready, I let Kairi have a (very quick, before it burnt!) stir. She gave it straight back as it was too hard to mix!
Next get as much of the mixture into the bowl with the rice snaps. At first I didn't think we had enough, then too much, turns out we had the perfect amount!
Toddler Time! Time to help stir the mixture, it took a lot of work but we got it all mixed up and then spooned it into the pan.
Next we flattened it all out, grabbed our shapes and started to cut. (They were really hard to push, so Kairi needed a little help from mummy.)
We found the bigger shapes like stars and trees worked best. Things like shooting stars, angels and candy canes didn't come out very well.
We placed each shape onto our greaseproof paper ready for decorating.
As we don't have a microwave, we melted it the best way we could!
Finally we drizzled the melted chocolate over the shapes.
Last of all Kairi decorated them with Smarties!
Kairi had lots of fun making them and we are going to package them later to pop to the neighbours and toddler group in the morning!
